In another sensational incident that has once again raised the issue of growing crimes on girls and women, a young women — believed to be in her early thirties — was recovered from Garchuk locality of Guwahati Monday morning. The woman was found lying near Lachitgarh High School and her clothes were torn and blood splattered across her face and clothes. The local people suspect she was sexually assaulted and later “dumped” at that place.

People of the locality first saw the woman lying near the road semi-nude and with blood splattered across her face and clothes and alerted the police. A team of police officials arrived on the scene and took the woman who could barely walk to the Guwahati Medical College for treatment.

“My mother told me that a young woman was found here at Garchuk. I went to the spot and saw her face splattered with blood and that her clothes were are torn. We suspect she was sexually assaulted. She in fact told me that she was with one person last night,” an eyewitness said.

“We got an information that a woman was lying near Lachitgarh High School. Our team rushed to the place and recovered the woman who has been shifted to the GMCH for treatment. She is stable now. We can confirm whether she was sexually molested only after we get the medical report from hospital,” JCP Diganta Bora told News Live.

Incidentally, the place where the young, thirty-something woman was recovered is only some 200 metres away from Garchuk police station.

The incident comes at a time when Assam has seen a spurt in crimes against women and children with a number of shocking cases of rapes and molestations, including the rape and murder of a Class V student at Batadrava in Assam’s Nagaon district last month, reported from across the State.
