Maheswar Boro, the deceased, was asked to appear at the NRC office in Barpeta today. But the old man took the extreme step, apparently out of fear, and his body was found hanging from a tree near his Khulakuti house.
Incidentally, Boro had left his ancestral house at Barpeta when he was just 20 years old and later settled at Khulakuti in Tezpur. He was not in very good terms with his siblings and other family members who presently stay at Barpeta.
