Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay Saturday confirmed that the incident involving a car that entered the Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati was indeed a breach of security.
A car with a lone person in the driver’s seat and apparently in an inebriated state was heard honking outside the gates of the Assam Police headquarters at Ulubari in Guwahati Friday night. Two constables who went to inquire had reportedly allowed the driver of the vehicle a few metres into the high-security office.
Incidentally, the vehicle bearing registration of Bihar after taking a reverse turn, went on to hit an 108 Mrityunjay ambulance and the driver of the car then created a scene outside the police headquarters, dancing semi-naked despite being injured.
“It was late at night when a person came outside the police headquarters and started honking his vehicle. Two of our constables went outside and inquired and allowed him to enter a few metres into so that he can take a reverse turn. But the driver who was apparently drunk then hit an ambulance,” ADGP LR Bishnoi said.
Although it’s now known that the person at the wheels of the car was inebriated, the incident however has raised questions as to how a vehicle can be allowed inside the police headquarters considering security aspects.
