Railway police on Thursday once again seized gold biscuits from a train besides arresting two persons in connection with the seizure.
Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, acting on tip-offs, carried a search operation and seized four gold biscuits weighing approximately 300 grams from the Guwahati-bound Kamrup Express. The two arrested persons have been identified as Labhveer Singh and Kulwant Singh.
Railway Police officials said the gold biscuits were being smuggled from Dimapur when they were seized at the Guwahati Railway Station. The market value of the gold that was seized today is estimated to be over Rs 10 lakh.
Incidentally, GRP officials have made a number of gold seizures in Guwahati in the past couple of months.
Smugglers and conduits who act as middlemen are also known to have used ingenious ways that includes swallowing gold pills and carrying them in their rectum.
