India’s new sprint queen, Assam’s Hima Das, has sought the blessings of the people of Assam as well as the entire nation as she gets ready to compete in the 400m sprint final at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 later this evening.
Speaking exclusively to NEWS LIVE from Australia, Hima, who became the first women athlete from India to reach a Commonwealth sprint final, sought the blessings of a billion Indians and more particularly from people of Assam as she prepares to compete in the sprint final.
“I will give my best. I thank everyone for your prayers and seek your blessings for the final so that I can bring laurels for the country and my home State,” Hima told NEWS LIVE in an exclusive video call from Australia.
Meanwhile, there were scenes of jubilation at Hima’s hometown Dhing in Nagaon district as people held special prayer meetings and sought the blessings of the Almighty for Hima ahead of the 400 metre finals.
Her parents said it’s her hard work that has paid off and that they feel proud of what she has achieved, particularly her performance at the Gold Coast Games.
“She has trained very hard. Her hard work has paid off. It makes us very proud as parents to see her excel,” Hima’s parents told NEWS LIVE as they exuded confidence their daughter will be able to win a medal in the 400 metre sprint event.
The women’s 400 metre final is scheduled to begin at 5:15pm today.
