The Congress party is wiped out in two North-East States; Tripura and Nagaland as BJP giving tough fight to the left in Tripura and with its alliance NDPP the saffron party is leading in Nagaland. There is a neck and neck fight between Congress and NPP in Meghalaya.

Putting up a remarkable show, the BJP and its alliance partner Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) surge ahead of the ruling CPI-M led Left Front in the counting of votes for 59 Assembly constituencies in Tripura. In Nagaland also, BJP and its alliance NDPP have reached halfway mark, while ruling Congress is ahead in Meghalaya.

In Tripura, BJP and its alliance partner are leading in 41 Assembly seats followed by CPIM-18. BJP alone is ahead in 33 seats while its alliance partner IPFT is leading in 8. Congress has failed to open its account. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar is leading from Dhanpur while BJP State unit President Biplab Kumar Deb is leading from Banamalipur seat.

In Meghalaya, the ruling Congress is leading in 22 seats. National Peoples Party is ahead in 12 followed by United Democratic Party 6, BJP 6 and Independents and others 12.

In Nagaland, BJP and its alliance partner Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, NDPP are leading in 31 assembly seats, while NPF is leading in 23.

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting. General and police observers have been appointed for all the counting halls, with a multi-tier security system also put in place.


Meanwhile, celebration begins in BJP office at Agartala, as trends show the party leading in election results.
