The last rites of iconic Bollywood actor Sridevi will be performed in Mumbai on Wednesday after her mortal remains were brought back from Dubai where she died Saturday night in what authorities of the emirates said was due to accidental drowning.
Family members, including filmmaker husband Boney Kapoor and stepson Arjun Kapoor, brought Sridevi’s mortal remains to her Lokhandwala residence in Anil Ambani’s private jet last night. The cremation is expected to take place around 3:30 in the afternoon with State honour.
Earlier, the Kapoor family said in a statement that her last journey will begin at 2 PM from Celebration Sports Club to the Vile Parle Crematorium where the last rites will be performed.
As the ambulance carrying the mortal remains entered her residence, fans gathered for a glimpse of their favourite actor. Hundreds and thousands of fans gathered outside her Green Acres residence even after midnight, many of them in tears as they are still trying to come to terms with the unexpected demise of the country’s first female superstar.
