Senior advocate from Mumbai, Subramanian Balakrishnan has urged Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis not to permit the funeral of actress Sridevi unless a second post-mortem is performed. Balakrishnan said Sridevi was a popular actress and a public figure. It is necessary that the real cause of her death is revealed.
Initial reports emerging from Dubai said categorically that she had died of a massive cardiac arrest. And now it is stated that she died of “accidental drowning”!! This is absurd because no forensic doctor will state the cause as “accidental drowning” because it is the job of the police to find out if it was an accident or murder. A professional will only state the cause as drowning.
He further elucidated that it is impossible for a full grown adult to drown in a bathtub. If she had died of cardiac arrest while having a bath there is no way water would have entered her lungs. Only “traces” of alcohol were found in her blood. There are also variations in the timings when her body was found.
Balakrishnan further added that the State government should have sent a doctor to Dubai to witness the autopsy. Since that was not done, a second post-mortem should be performed in Mumbai.
Even though the death took place in Dubai nothing prevents the Mumbai police from suo-moto conducting a parallel investigation since Sridevi was domiciled in the city and was a celebrity with a huge fan following.
Meanwhile, Arjun Kapoor is reportedly leaving for Dubai to join his father Boney Kapoor in the wait for the release of Sridevi’s body. India’s envoy to the UAE Navdeep Suri has discouraged speculation on Sridevi’s death, saying the Indian mission was in touch with the local authorities to complete the formalities. Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor had given a statement to the Dubai Police on the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. Kapoor reportedly discovered Sridevi unconscious in the bathtub filled with water in the hotel.
