Union minister Rajen Gohain has termed the allegations of rape leveled against him by a woman in Nagaon as a political conspiracy aimed at maligning his image. The Minister of State for Railways claimed people with vested interests have been trying to defame him in the past as well and that he had been victimized in the run-up to the elections in 2016 and 2011.
“It’s a political conspiracy against me. Conspiracies are plotted against me every time I am about to contest elections. This happened in 2016 & 2011 as well. It is taking place yet again. Investigation is underway and the truth will be revealed soon,” Gohain said in New Delhi.
Incidentally, a woman had lodged an FIR at Nagaon Sadar Police Station, accusing the union minister of molestation and rape. Nagaon Police had registered a case against the Railway MoS (Case No. 2592/18) under sections 417, 376 and 506 of IPC following the FIR lodged on August 2.
“A case has been registered at Nagaon Police Station against Union Minister Rajen Gohain (Case No. 2592/18) under sections 417, 376 and 506 IPC on Aug 2. After the registration of the cases, all actions have been taken legally. We have recorded the statement of the complainant and her medical examination has also been conducted,” Nagaon SP Shankar Brata Raimedhi told News Live yesterday (Aug 10).
He also said that the complainant had later written to the police stating that she wanted to withdraw the case and not continue with it any further. Nagaon Police, however, have begun investigations as per existing legal provisions.
Incidentally, a photograph said to be that of the union minister with a woman and an audio clip (News Live does not vouch for the authenticity of either the photograph or the audio clip) where a person alleged to be Rajen Gohain is heard threatening the husband of the complainant have now gone viral.
