Amid a raging controversy surrounding a campaign in the social media to boycott Assam singing megastar Zubeen Garg ahead of his May 20 performance at Lumding Bihu celebrations, Zubeen said he will perform at Lumding as scheduled and that he is “half Bongal”.
“I have heard about a boycott call or something by some people. It’s nothing. I will perform at Lumding on May 20 as scheduled. I am not against Bengali-speaking people. In fact, I am half Bongal (Bengali). I had lived in Karimganj for eight long years,” Zubeen Garg said while performing at Sivasagar yesterday.

Incidentally, vested-interest groups and individuals have been carrying out an online campaign, asking people to boycott Zubeen at the bihu function in Lumding following his stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The Bihu organizers in Lumding, too, had made it clear that the event will be held on May 19-20 and that the heartthrob singer will definitely be performing at the event.
